Oak Harbor Public Schools celebrates School Board Recognition Month with portraits of board members.

January is School Board Recognition Month!

Join us in thanking our volunteer school board for creating the conditions for our students to say they are valued and understood, take risks in their learning to succeed academically, and that Oak Harbor believes in their future.

The Oak Harbor Public Schools Board of Directors received the prestigious 2025 Board of the Year award in the medium-district category from the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) in November, recognizing the district’s sustained, student-focused governance and the successful adoption of a comprehensive strategic plan.

“I am deeply honored to work alongside such a dedicated and student-centered board, truly deserving of this achievement. Their leadership sets a clear direction grounded in student voice and academic excellence, and this recognition reflects their steadfast commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential,” - Superintendent Dr. Michelle Kuss-Cybula

An Important Message From Our Nurses

You may have heard the news that measles cases in Washington State are increasing, specifically in Snohomish County. We want to make sure our schools and families are ready if cases happen in our area.

Measles is very contagious and can spread quickly. The best way to keep our schools safe is to make sure everyone is protected.

How You Can Get Ready

  • Check Your Records: Please make sure your child is up to date on their MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) shots.
  • Find Missing Records: If you aren’t sure if your child has had their shots, you may have online access to records or you can also call your doctor’s office.
  • Know the Rules: If there is a measles case at school, students who have not had their shots may need to stay home. This includes students with exemptions. They might have to stay home for an extended period of time to stop the sickness from spreading.

More Information If you have questions about measles or the vaccine, please visit the Department of Health measles page or talk to your school nurse.

Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff healthy!

Complete the Facility Improvements Survey by Feb. 6!

Over the past two years, Oak Harbor Public Schools has worked with a group of citizens to identify the physical and functional needs of its facilities. This Capitol Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) was charged with developing a recommendation to the school board for future capital improvements. In addition to assessing the condition of buildings, CFAC also recognized the high importance of school safety to the district and community.

As the next phase in this work, we need your input on what you would support and prioritize for facility improvements.

To close out the assembly, guest speaker and 2014 OHHS graduate Jahleel Vester shared his experiences and advice to the OHHS student body.
