Today, some students at Oak Harbor High School and North Whidbey Middle School participated in a student-organized walkout, an expression of protected civic engagement. This was not a district-sponsored event. Upon learning of the planned demonstration earlier this week we worked with our staff to prioritize student safety and communication. 

When students leave campus during the school day, we follow standard practice and procedures to take reasonable steps to support student safety and maintain communication with families. In advance of this event, we communicated with families and staff and engaged with our District Parent Advisory Committee. We also encouraged families to talk with their students about student rights, responsibilities, and expectations.

The results for the 2026 Regional Scholastic Art Competition are officially in!

 

Congratulations to Miyabi Leelaphisut earned a prestigious GOLD KEY for her Digital Painting, Drawing & Collage piece, "Golden Cage" and will progress to the National Scholastics competition. Christian Fortune, Gwen Miller, Nohea Kelley and Kaitlin Cellona earned Silver Keys. Sarah Pearson, Nohea Kelley, Kaitlin Cellona, Reese Wasinger, Peyton Bodenhaffer, Memphis Jones and Sage Stravos earned honorable mention.

According to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens, and a large source of scholarships for young artists and writers in the United States and Canada. Teens in grades 7-12, 13 years or older, are eligible to enter their original art and writing work for a chance at recognition, publication, exhibition and more.

The North Whidbey Middle School Leadership class visited Oak Harbor Elementary's second-grade classes to read and make clovers for St. Patrick’s Day.

Oak Harbor High School gathered for its annual Multicultural Assembly. The event showcased the rich cultural diversity represented within the student body and staff, offering attendees a dynamic journey through traditions, languages, and artistic expressions from six continents.
